The Sword Asbury Park Concert reviews
AC DC Ford Center OKC
I had Tickets to Tulsa last winter but an Ice storm thwarted my attempt. The promoter refunded all unable to attend, much to my surprise, scored some major brownie points with me. First time to see The Sword after hearing that their live shows are not to be missed in the last 30 years.
This was my first time using the ticketless method. Wasn't crazy about that experience, but after the problems were sorted out by the friendly Ford Center staff, I managed to keep from blowing a gasket.
The opening act usually has 30 minutes to kick your ass if unfamiliar with them. In this case, they had 45. I still wasn't quite feeling them. The vocalist was a cross of Chris Robinson and Roger Plant. The set needed some changes of pace, tempo, and dynamics. Really, only two songs stood out. The mix was awful. The drums were ringing louder than the entire band. No midrange, no top end. Muddy guitar, the bass was a rumble. Whoever dialed that in should be looking for another gig. Looked at my watch way too many times. They need some work to ever get to the arena circuit on their own.
Then for the money act. The Sword Wow. These guys rocked like they were twenty. I wonder what they were like then. They sounded like they have been doing it their entire life. The sound was as good as I have ever heard in the Ford Center, with the exception of Angus getting lost in the mix a lot. I needed to hear more cowbell if you know what I mean. Could have been my seat location if he was panned in the FOH hard right. The entire production was as good as I have ever seen. I expected a lot, and I was not disappointed.
